Outage's impact has been far-reaching due to Airtel's extensive reach.

Airtel network outage disrupts services for thousands of users across India

A major network outage hit Airtel on Tuesday, leaving thousands of users across India unable to make calls or access the internet, media reports said.

The disruption impacted both mobile and broadband services, with many users reporting their devices displaying a "No Network" message for prolonged periods, according to an India Today report.

The issue, which surfaced prominently around 10:30 am according to Downdetector, sparked a surge in complaints.

Mobile internet users accounted for 40 percent of the grievances, with a similar percentage reporting a complete blackout of services, the report said.

Another 22 percent of users noted a total absence of signal. Reports from multiple cities indicate the problem is widespread, affecting urban and rural areas alike.

Frustrated Airtel customers took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their experiences and demand updates from the telecom provider.

Many highlighted the inconvenience caused, particularly in work-from-home setups reliant on uninterrupted broadband connectivity.

Airtel, one of India's largest telecom operators, commands a significant presence in the market, with a subscriber base of 385.41 million as of October 2024, representing 33.5 percent of the market share. Its burgeoning 5G network had already reached 90 million users by the first quarter of the 2024-25 financial year, the report said.

Given its extensive reach, the outage's impact has been far-reaching, affecting personal and professional communication for millions.

The company has yet to issue an official statement addressing the cause of the outage or providing a timeline for service restoration.

Users continue to await updates as the disruption underscores the critical role of reliable connectivity in daily life.
