South Korea: 4 killed in ferry sinking

Seoul, Apr 16 (IBNS) At least four people were killed as a ferry sank off South Korea's southern coast on Wednesday, media reports said.

At least 284 people are still missing.

The accident occurred when the 6,325-ton Sewol was carrying 462 people in it.

The mishap took place in waters 20 kilometers off the island of Byeongpung.

"A total of 174 are confirmed to have survived as of 7:00 p.m., while we continue to aggregate the number of survivors through various channels," a South Korean government official was quoted as saying by country's Yonhap news agency.

Rescue operations is currently going on.
