Kolkata, Mar 3 (IBNS): The West Bengal Assembly on Friday passed the West Bengal Clinical Establishments (Registration, Regulation and Transparency) Bill, 2017.

The bill is aiming to regulate the private hospitals and hence bring in transparency in the manner in which they are operating.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called the bill as 'historic'.

"This Bill aims at bringing transparency, ending harassment of patients and taking steps to stop medical negligence," she said.

She said: "Hospitals cannot charge more than the package for treatment."
