Tremors rock Kolkata as strong earthquake hits Bangladesh

Kolkata/IBNS: Tremors felt in Kolkata and other districts of the Indian state of West Bengal as an effect of an earthquake which has been reported in Bangladesh.

An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 magnitude in Richter scale was reported in Bangladesh, a neighbouring country of India, on Friday morning.

People in Kolkata have experienced quite powerful tremors at around 10:10 am.

"I was working on a desk when I first felt the tremor. Initially, I thought I was feeling dizzy but when I looked up to the ceiling fan, I was sure of the earthquake," a Kolkata resident told IBNS.

Tremors were also felt in Malda, Nadia, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur and several other districts.
