Ranthambore scare: Tourists left stranded in tiger zone for 90 mins as guide flees safari

Ranthambore: A safari at Rajasthan’s Ranthambore National Park turned into a nightmare when a group of tourists, including women and children, were left stranded in a tiger-infested forest for nearly 90 minutes after their safari canter broke down in zone 6.

The incident occurred around 6 pm when the canter suddenly stopped functioning. Tourists alleged that their guide abandoned them, claiming he would bring another vehicle, but instead fled the scene after misbehaving with them.

Videos recorded by those stuck inside the forest showed frightened children huddled in the dark, holding mobile phone flashlights as they cried.

Ranthambore, which is home to over 60 tigers, also hosts leopards, sloth bears and marsh crocodiles, raising the terror of the situation.

The group remained stranded between 6 pm and 7:30 pm before a rescue team finally reached the spot, officials confirmed.

Ranthambore Tiger Reserve’s Field Director and Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF), Anoop K.R., said ensuring the safety of visitors is the park’s highest priority.

He assured that strict disciplinary action would follow against any guide or driver found guilty of negligence.

“Such lapses will not be tolerated in future,” he said.
