New coronavirus recoveries outpace daily new cases for more than 1.5 months

New Delhi/UNI: New Covid-19 recoveries on Wednesday outpaced daily new additions for more than 1.5 months, as less than 50,000 new daily cases surfaced for the eleventh continuous day.

Altogether 474 case fatalities were reported in the past 24 hours and were mainly from 10 states/UTs.

A total of 44,739 Covid-19 patients recovered in the past 24 hours while 38,617 new cases were reported taking the active caseload to 4,46,805. The active caseload as on Wednesday comprised merely 5.01 per cent of all Covid cases, an official release said.

The recovery rate was up at 93.52 per cent today with the recovered cases totalling 83,35,109.

As much as 74.98 per cent of the new recovered cases were contributed by 10 states/UTs.

Kerala led with 6,620 recoveries followed by Maharashtra and Delhi which recorded 5,123 and 4,421 new recoveries respectively.

There has been a continuous decline in the average daily cases since the past many weeks and assumes significance amid

surge in Covid cases in many countries in Europe and the US.

However, Delhi reported 6,396 cases in the past 24 hours. Kerala recorded 5,792 new cases while West Bengal reported 3,654 new cases yesterday.

A high of 78.9 per cent of the 474 case fatalities that have been reported in the past 24 hours were from 10 states/UTs.

However, 20.89 per cent of the new fatalities reported were from Delhi which reported 99 deaths. Maharashtra and West Bengal followed with 68 and 52 new deaths, respectively.
