New Delhi, Feb 21 (IBNS) More than 700 people died and about 11,000 affected by swine flu across India over the last two months as the deadly disease continued to sweep through the country.

Reports said on Saturday the  outbreak of the H1N1 virus has been the worst yet in India since 2010 – with Rajasthan and Gujarat being the worst affected states accounting for 206 and 180 deaths respectively.

Among the other badly affected states, Maharashtra has reported 88 deaths while the toll is 49 in Telengana, 29 in Punjab and 20 in Haryana.

Government officials, however, say that the situation is under control.

Replying a question on the allegation of shortage of medicine, Health Minister JP Nadda said, “If any medicine store refuses to give medicines after showing a medical prescription, it should be reported to the authorities and action will be taken,” he said.

Assuring that there was no reason to panic, health minister said the government was observing the situation.

TV and radio campaigns have been launched across Indian by health authorities in order to raise awareness about precautionary measures against the viral disease.
