Maharashtra reports slight dip in Covid-19 cases with 27,918 infections on Tuesday

Mumbai/IBNS: Maharashtra, which has been witnessing a massive surge in Covid-19 cases, recorded a slight dip in infections on Tuesday.

The state recorded 27,918 infections and 139 deaths in a span of 24 hours, according to the state health department bulletin.

With 27, 77, 73, 436 total infections, the state has logged the highest number of cases in the country since the start of the pandemic.

Maharashtra had reported 31,643 new Covid-19 cases, 20,854 recoveries and 102 deaths on Monday.

Meanwhile, Mumbai reported 4,760 new cases on Monday and 10 deaths, marginally lower than the numbers on Monday.

Earlier Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray directed all district authorities to impose a lockdown wherever necessary. The state is already witnessing a night curfew from last Sunday.

The order said that shopping malls will be closed from 8 pm to 7 am.

The CM noted that there will not be any sudden state-wide lockdown and the public will be given advance notice.

Besides Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat continue to report a surge in the daily new cases. 78.56% of the new cases are reported from these 6 states.
