Landslides block Char Dham roads in Uttarakhand

Hardwar, July 16 (IBNS) The pilgrimage and tourist movement to Char Dham in Uttarakhand has been suspended owing to heavy landslides and rain, said reports on Wednesday.

Roads to all the four dhams or pilgrim sites- Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath- were blocked owing to the calamity.

Heavy rains are predicted in next 24 hours and warnings have been issued.

Uttarakhand witnessed devastating "Himalayan Tsunami" last year killing many and also wiping out habitations. Even the area around the Kedarnath temple was wiped out.

Char Dham  are the names of four pilgrimage sites in India that are widely revered by Hindus.
