India's Covid-19 toll crosses 1-lakh mark, tally of infections over 64.7 lakh

New Delhi/IBNS: The Covid-19 toll in the South Asian country of India breached one-lakh mark on Saturday as 1,069 people infected with the virus died in the last 24 hours.

79,476 new Covid-19 cases were reported from across the country in 24 hours between Friday and Saturday mornings, pushing the overall tally of infections to cross 64.7 lakh.

The total number of people who have recovered from the respiratory disease has crossed 54 lakh with 75,628 Covid-19 patients testing negative for the virus in the last one day.

The country presently has 9,44,996 active Covid-19 patients in the vast country of 1.3 billion people.

Though India is the second worst Covid-19-affected country, the Health Ministry has maintained the fatality rate is far lower than other countries.

However, India is running the risk of a spike in Covid-19 cases as the country is heading towards the festive season later this month with no vaccine yet ready to treat the disease.
