Indian summer: Jammu sizzles at 44.5 degrees, summer vacations begins, heat wave to continue

Jammu, June 1 (UNI) The winter capital of the state on Saturday witnessed another hottest day of the season and sizzled at maximum temperature touching 44.5 degree Celsius.

Jammu earlier from Tuesday to Wednesday, recorded maximum temperatures from 40 degrees to 43 degrees Celsius and on Friday it was 44.1 degree Celsius.

Meanwhile Jammu and Kashmir Government has ordered summer vacations in all government and private schools falling in summer zone from June 1 to July 16.

“The maximum temperature on Saturday afternoon was recorded 44.5 degree Celsius and the minimum was 26.3 degree Celsius,” said a weatherman.

He added that the temperature will keep fluctuating between 40 degrees to 45 degrees in next few days.

Famous Ranbir Canal in Jammu on Friday witnessed heavy rush of people beating the heat in scorching summer.

Director, J&K Metrology Department, Mr Sonam Lotus said, “heat wave warning is predicted for plains of Jammu region.”

“On Friday maximum temperature was 44.1deg Celsius, which is 4.7 degrees above normal,” said Mr Lotus.

He added that on Saturday, by evening, the maximum temperature most likely to touch 45 degrees and added that it is likely to continue for next 48 hours.

“So Heat Wave will persists for next 48 hours,” he said adding that intermittent rain with thunderstorm is expected during June 3 Evening to June 5.

“Rain with thunderstorm is expected at some places of Central and South Kashmir during next three hours from now,” he said.

Meanwhile unscheduled power cuts have also irked the people of Jammu and they have appealed to the Governor’s administration to issue directions to the department to plug the loopholes.

The PDD has also appealed to the people not to misuse power and save electricity. The PDD men this afternoon also raided many locations to check power theft.
