New Delhi/IBNS: India on Wednesday reported 38,792 new COVID-19 cases at a time the country is once again struggling to cope up with the vaccine demand from 1.3 billion people.

In 24 hours between Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, 624 people infected with COVID-19 died.

The recovery rate has further increased to 97.28% with 41,000 patients recovering in the last one day.

While the government claims 38.76 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far, the country has recorded a drop in daily vaccination since Jun 21, when the inoculation drive was centralised.

As per the data available on CoWin website which is the platform to book a vaccine slot, 1.33 million doses were administered last Sunday, the lowest since May 30.

The country's vaccination drive peaked on Jun 21 with 8.87 million people were inoculated with a dose.

In a meeting with Chief Ministers of all northeastern states, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday flagged concern over people crowding at hill stations and markets without masks.

"We often hear the argument that we must enjoy before a third wave hits. People must understand that the third wave will not arrive on its own," the Prime Minister said.
