New Delhi/IBNS: India reported 2,86,384 COVID-19 cases while the toll went up by 573 in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday morning.

In the same span of time, 3,06,357 COVID-19 patients have recovered from various health facilities.

While the daily positivity rate in the country is now 19.59%, the recovery rate stands at 93.33%.

Among all the states, Kerala, the south Indian state, reported the maximum spike with the addition of 49,771 new infections in the last 24 hours.

India, which was severely battered by the second wave of the virus, has been witnessing a surge in cases driven by the new variant, Omicron since late last year.

The health experts say the new variant is far more infectious but less deadly.
