India adds 22,752 new Covid-19 cases, 482 deaths in 24 hours

New Delhi/IBNS: India continued to witness a massive surge in Novel Coronavirus cases as 22,752 people in the country of 1.3 billion people were newly infected between Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, taking the overall Covid-19 tally to 7,42,417.

With new 482 deaths from the contagion in the last 24 hours, the toll climbed to 20,642.

As 4,56,831 Covid patients have been cured, the active cases in the vast country now stand at 2,64,944.

According to Johns Hopkins University & Medicine, India, which comprises 36 states and union territories, is the third worst Covid-affected country, trailing behind the United States and Brazil.

Though the Asian country is in Unlock 2 despite the huge surge in Covid cases, West Bengal on Tuesday announced a stricter lockdown in all (redefined) containment zones which will be effective from 5 pm on Jul 9.
