Himachal Pradesh: Mild quake hits Chamba district

Shimla/UNI:  An earthquake measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale hit Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district on early Saturday.

MeT Office Director Manmohan Singh, here, said that earthquake of magnitude 3.2 on the Richter scale was recorded at 0445 hrs this morning and its epicentre was located at Latitude 32.9 degrees North and Longitude 76.2 degrees East with depth of ten km in Borders of Chamba district of Himachal and Jummu and Kashmir.

No loss of life and property has been reported so far due to this earthquake.

Earlier on Friday, too, three earthquakes struck parts of Chamba and Kullu district. From past four days, the hill state has been witnessing frequent tremors.

An earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale hit Region of Jummu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh border in Chamba district on Friday at 1442 hrs. Its epicentre was located at the Latitude 33 degrees North & Longitude 76.1 degrees East at a depth of five kilometer. Another earthquake of 4.1 magnitude occurred at 1637 hrs having Latitude 32.9 degrees North & Longitude 76.1 degrees East at 10 kilometre depth on the HP-J & K Border Region in Chamba district.

Mild tremors were also felt in in parts of Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh on Friday morning as another earthquake of magnitude 2.7 hit the Kullu region at 1048 hrs. Epicentre of the earthquake was located at the Latitude 32.4 degrees North & Longitude 77.4 degree East with depth of five km in hills of the Kullu district.
However, no loss of life and property has been reported.

District Kangra, Chamba, Lahaul & Spiti, Kullu, Mandi and Kinnuar are highly vulnerable for such catastrophe as they fall under the high seismic zones of 4 and 5.
