Mumbai, Aug 3 (UNI) Normal life was thrown out of gear following heavy rains in Mumbai on Saturday.

The India Meteorological Department warned of "heavy to very heavy rainfall" in Mumbai and its suburbs over the next 24 hours.

KS Hosalikar, Deputy Director General of Meteorology, India Met Department, Mumbai, tweets, 'With the development of low pressure area over Bay, this Saturday night and Sunday, Mumbai is very likely to get intense heavy rainfall.'

"As per IMD, there is a warning of heavy rainfall on Saturday along with a high tide of 4.90 meters at 1.44 pm season's highest tide. We appeal citizens to avoid venturing near sea or walking in water logged areas. In any emergency call us on 1916," tweeted BMC.

Heavy rains in Mumbai on Saturday morning once again hit the road and rail traffic. While traffic snarls and water-logging were reported from different parts of the city, some local trains on three main lines – Western Line, Central Line and Harbour Line – were also delayed.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, the Central Railway confirmed that 'suburban trains were running with cautious speed' and hence they were delayed. The Central Railway, however, added that there was 'no hold up of traffic as of now'.

The tweet by Central Railway said, 'Due to heavy rains, suburban trains are running with cautious speed causing some delays but no hold up of traffic as of now. Inconvenience is regretted.'

Following technical snag near Goregaon, the western railway was also hit. There were 15-20 minutes delay in the train services.

'Technical problem in point at Goregaon up fast line, trains being run after clamping the point leading to 15-20min delay. WR team attending the issue. Services to be normalised soon,' tweeted the Western railway.
