New Delhi/IBNS: The 21-day lockdown in India started from Tuesday midnight, one of the major measures announced by the Centre in its fight against the spread of deadly COVID 19 that has claimed 11 deaths so far.

In another 8 pm national address, the second time within a week, Indian PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged the 1.3 billion people of the country to stay indoors.

Following the 'Janata Curfew' (people's lockdown) on Sunday, which was urged by the PM during his Thursday address, several country's initiated the lockdown from Monday onwards.

In his address, Modi said nobody in the world’s biggest democracy will be allowed to leave their homes for the next three weeks.

"From 12 midnight, there will be complete lockdown across the entire country. For the benefit of the country, there will be a complete lockdown in every nook and corner of India. People are not allowed to step outside their homes from midnight 12. Forget going out," he said.

"The only and only work you should do is staying at home," said he.

India has recorded over 500 infected patients and 11 deaths so far.
