Deadly grazing? Over 100 sheep die in Pakistan in just two days

| @indiablooms | Apr 08, 2026, at 05:48 pm

Over 100 sheep have died under mysterious circumstances in Cholistan Desert over the past 48 hours, according to media reports.

Local sources told Dawn News that the actual death toll could exceed 150, although officials from the livestock department have reported lower figures.

Cholistan Division Livestock Director, Dr Sibtain, confirmed to Dawn News that at least 90 sheep had died.

He clarified that the deaths were not caused by any epidemic disease.

According to him, the animals likely died after drinking water soon after consuming leftover wheat grains while grazing in fields, leading to a condition known as acidosis.

The deceased sheep belonged to multiple shepherds in the region.
