Daily COVID infections in Delhi crosses 1000-mark after 7 months amid Omicron spread

New Delhi/IBNS: The number of fresh COVID-19 cases in Delhi has crossed the 1000-mark after 7 months, reaching 1,313. This is a 42 percent rise from Wednesday's infections.

The positivity rate touched 1.73 percent, showing data from the health department.

No fresh deaths were reported.

On May 26, the national capital had reported 1,491 cases with a positivity rate of 1.93 percent and 130 deaths.

The national capital had logged 923 cases on Wednesday, which is a massive 86 percent jump from Tuesday and the highest since May 30.

The spike came as the government wrote to eight states, urging them to take immediate measures to control the sudden surge in multiple cities.

Cases of new COVID-19 variant 'Omicron' are increasing at a rapid rate in big cities, mostly Delhi and Mumbai.

India's tally of daily COVID-19 cases is witnessing jumps every other day with the country reporting over 13,000 cases in the last 24 hours.

The number of cases of COVID-19 'Omicron' variant has surged to 961 with a huge chunk of it being reported from Delhi (263) and Maharashtra (252).
