Covid tally in Odisha surges to 10,07,750 with 638 new cases

Bhubaneswar/UNI: The covid tally in Odisha today surged to 10,07,750 with the detection of 638 new cases in the past 24 hours while the death toll rose to 7969 with 68 more succumbing to the virus.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said 367 new positive cases were reported from the quarantine centres and 271 as local contact cases.

Out of 638 cases, 110 ( about 17.2 per cent) were from the age group below 18 years while a maximum of 258 cases were recorded from Khordha district followed by 57 in Cuttack district.

These two districts have reported the highest number covid positive cases in the past 24 hours, almost contributing 49.37 per cent of the total new cases recorded in the state.

Similarly, out of 68 covid fatalities recorded in the state during the health audit, 22 were reported from Cuttack district alone followed by Angul ( 11), Jagatsinghpur ( 8), Kendrapara ( 6) and Balasore ( 5 ).

In a tragic incident a two months old baby in Khordha district who tested covid positive, died today.

The recoveries in the state went up to 9,92,473 with the recovery of 843 people on Sunday. The active cases further reduced to 7255 with Khordha district alone registering 2815 cases followed by Cuttack ( 845).

These two districts have contributed almost half of the total covid active cases in the state.

The test positivity rate(TPR) of the state, which for the first time recorded less than one per cent on Sunday, reported 1.11 per cent.

Out of 30 districts in the state, as many as 25 districts have registered TPR less than one per cent in the past 24 hours.

State Family Welfare Director Dr Bijaya Panigrahi said the Odisha government has set a target to inoculate all people of the state by December 2021 depending upon the supply of the vaccines.

He said till date over 2.20 doses have been administered in the state which included 1.66 crore first doses and 53 lakhs second doses.

Dr Panigrahi said so far one lakh pregnant women have been inoculated in the state and presently at 1400 centres across the state the vaccination is going on smoothly.
