COVID-19: Toll in West Bengal rises to 5,194, cases touch 2,70,331

Kolkata/UNI:  The COVID-19 toll in Bengal rose to 5,194 with the death of 62 persons on Sunday, while the tally touched 2,70,331 with 3,357 new confirmed cases

According to the latest State Government Health bulletin, the active casesaccounted for 27,439, while the number of discharged cases stood at 2,37,698.

The percentage of discharged rose to 87.93 per cent.

The bulletin said the total number of samples tested stood at 33,97,988 with 42,262 tested in the past 24 hours.

While the city recorded the highest number of 1767 deaths so far, surroundingdistricts of North 24 Parganas and Howrah came second and third respectively with 1170 and 588 fatalities.

South 24 Parganas accounted for 330 deaths, the toll in Hooghly stood at 233,Darjeeling 113, Paschim and Purba Midnapore 146 and 138 respectively,

Malda 56, Murshidabad 67, Nadia 99, Paschim Bardhaman 71, Purba Bardhaman 54,Jalpaiguri 61, Uttar Dinajpur 39, Dakshin Dinajpur 35, Birbhum 32, Alipurduar 58,Kalimpong 7, Cooch Behar 40, Purulia 19, Jhargram 9 and Bankura 59.
