Covid-19: India reports less than 100 fatalities in nine months

New Delhi/UNI: India on Saturday recorded 11,713 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, pushing the country caseload to 1,08,14,304, while the death toll soared to 1,54,918 with 97 more fatalities.

The figure of daily deaths remained below hundred for the first time in nine months. The last time the country reported less than 100 deaths was on May 5, last year.

According to the Union Health Ministry, the active cases further shrank by 2870 to stand at 1,48,590. It is now 1.37 per cent of the total caseload.

The past 24 hours saw 14,488 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to

1,05,10,796, which is 97.19 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate stood at 1.43 per cent.

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR), 7,40,794 samples were tested on Friday, taking the total number of tests carried out by the body till date to 20,06,72,589.
