COVID-19: Death toll touches 559 in India

New Delhi/IBNS: The death toll due to COVID-19 in India touched 559 on Monday, as per the latest government figures released.

The number of COVID-19 cases in India now stands at 17656.

This figure includes 14255 active cases and.

India has so far seen 2841 people recovering from the disease.

The Indian health ministry said the rate of doubling of Coronavirus case in India now improved to 7.5 days.

“India’s COVID-19 doubling rate has improved to 7.5 days from 3.4 days before the lockdown,” Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, said while addressing the media during his daily press briefing. 

He added: "Mahe in Puducherry, Kodagu in Karnataka and Pauri Garhwal in Uttarakhand have not reported any COVID-19 case in the last 28 days."

He said Goa is now COVID-free.

Agarwal said the number of districts where no COVID-19 case has been reported in the pasat 14 days has increased to 59
