Guwahati/IBNS: An elephant calf was rescued by Forest personnel at Miripathar under Bokial Beat in Assam's Golaghat district on Thursday.

The two-and-a-half-month old elephant calf was rescued by Forest personnel from Miripathar village after locals informed the authorities.

The baby elephant wandered around after its lactating mother was electrocuted in an incident that took place at Dholagaon Pathar on Sunday.

"The two and a half months old elephant calf was rescued by Forest personnel this morning. As it was weak, it was shifted to the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) at Panbari for treatment and rehabilitation," Divisional Forest Officer, Golaghat, SK Thakuria said.
