New Delhi/IBNS: The Indian Health Ministry on Friday said since the implementation of lockdown last month, the doubling rate of COVID-19 cases has moved from 3 to 6.2 days.

"Before lockdown, doubling rate of COVID-19 cases was 3 days. For last 7 days, doubling rate has been 6.2 days," Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary- Health & Family Welfare, said during the daily briefing.  "In 19 states and UTs, doubling rate is less than national average," he said.

"India has been doing better than many other countries on outcome ratio - ratio of no. of #COVID2019 recoveries vs. no. of deaths," he said.

He said the government is working hard to further improve the ratio.

The Novel Coronavirus cases on Friday morning crossed 13,000-mark in the country with the figure now standing at 13,387, Union Health Ministry said on Friday.

Deaths due to the deadly virus across the nation have risen to 437 with 23 fresh deaths reported in the past 24 hours.

Active cases of COVID-19 in the country at present are 11,201, while the number of cases cured and discharged have witnessed some improvement with the figure now at 1,748, health ministry data showed.

Cases in the worst COVID hit state in the country -- Maharashtra, have again witnessed a spike with the number now standing at 3,205 and 194 casualties, followed by the national capital where the cases spiked to 1,640, and 38 casualties.
