Twitter suspends $8 subscription fee program for getting verified blue tick amid growing imposter accounts

San Francisco/IBNS: Twitter Inc. suspended the $8 subscription fee program for getting the blue tick provided for verified accounts that it launched earlier this week amid a growing issue of users impersonating major brands, media reports said.

Existing subscribers will still have access to their accounts, said reports. The move was reported earlier by the website Platformer.

The social media brand has also reinstated "official" badges for high-profile accounts, with the grey badge reappearing below the profiles of businesses and major media outlets Friday based on an internal approved list.

The identification marker was rolled out earlier this week before being scrapped.

Twitter is struggling with impostor accounts since the company allowed paying subscribers to get verified blue check marks after Elon Musk's takeover.

"To combat impersonation, we've added an 'Official' label to some accounts," Twitter Support tweeted on Friday.
