Tata Power's Mundra UMPP generated 64,928 MUs of electricity till FY15

Using supercritical technology, and one of the most energy-efficient thermal power plant in the country, the Mundra UMPP supplies electricity to 8 discoms in 5 states, namely Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Haryana and Punjab. Gujarat is the largest procurer of power from CGPL at 47.5%, followed by Maharashtra at 20%, Punjab at 12.5%, and Haryana and Rajasthan at 10% each.

 

The Mundra UMPP meets 2% of India's power needs and benefits close to 16 million domestic consumers, apart from supplying cost competitive power to industry and agriculture. In Gujarat, the project supplies power to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited, in Maharashtra to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd, and in Punjab to Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd. The project powers 2 discoms in Haryana- Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd, and 3 discoms in Rajasthan- Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd., Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd and Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd.

In addition, Mundra UMPP has partnered with reputed government and non-governmental organisations for livelihood enhancement for seasonal migrant fishing communities residing in this region. 

 

It has also engaged with Aga Khan Society for Rural Development Program (India) to implement the Sagarbandhu project dedicated to the development of the fishing community. Such programmes include distribution of solar lights on fishing boat, better fishing nets to fishermen and fish selling equipment to fisherwomen. These interventions have helped fishermen increase their productivity and in turn their income levels.

 

Education has also been an important focus for Tata Power in Mundra, and has implemented several projects to boost the community’s literacy levels. Under its project Sujaan, the Company promotes computer literacy by setting up learning stations in the villages, and imparting trainings on innovations in technology, hardware/software design, and cognitive skills. Under its programme Shiksha Sarathi, the Company focuses on educational excellence of the children through learning camps, science fairs, etc. Tata Power always undertakes projects that help its communities towards development, and the company will continue to undertake similar endeavors in the future. 

 

Till date, the company has conducted a total of 176 Learning Camps in 45 schools under its Shiksha Sarthi programme, and reached out to a total of 4460 children, bringing better education at their doorstep.
