Swadeshi fever grips Indian shaadis! This wedding season to spark a Rs. 6.5 lakh crore desi business boom, report reveals meaty numbers

The income is likely to be generated from 46 lakh weddings planned to be held in the window of November 1-December 14.

Delhi, the national capital of the country, will solely contribute Rs. 1.8 lakh crore from 4.8 lakh weddings.

"While the total number of weddings is nearly similar to last year in the same time period, spending per wedding has increased significantly, reflecting higher disposable incomes, inflation in gold and silver prices, and rising consumer confidence after a record-breaking festive season," CAIT secretary general and Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khanderwal said as quoted by Financial Express.

Khandelwal said the country's mood is currently 'vocal for local' when it comes to destination or decour.

Last year, the report said 48 lakh weddings were held generating Rs. 5.9 lakh crore while 38 lakh weddings took place generating Rs. 4.74 lakh crore in 2023.

"Wedding infrastructure in India has transformed in the last few years," said Dakshita Bhatla Gangola, founder of DB and Spaces, a wedding planning and decor company as quoted by Financial Times.

Among all locations across the country, the Rajasthani heritage venues have the highest demand as hotel booking for weddings add around 20-30 percent during the peak season.

"In India, luxury hotels overlooking lakes in Udaipur remain popular for their royal ambience and cinematic appeal," Nikhil Mahajan, Director at Kestone Utsav, a luxury weddings and social events company, told Moneycontrol.

The wedding venues and banquet services are getting cheaper with GST 2.0 that reduced the slab from 28 percent to 18 percent.

During an address in early August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given a massive 'Swadeshi' push even in weddings as a part of the government's 'vocal for local' drive amid the India-US tariff war.

The Prime Minister had appealed to people to avoid touring foreign locations for destination weddings.

Modi had said, "I had earlier appealed to all to avoid spending a huge sum of money by getting married on foreign locations. We have a plenty of spots in our country where marriages can take place... Our Swadeshi mantra will shape our future. It will also be a fitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi."
