Sukinda Chromite Mine of Tata Steel receives the 'GEM Granites Environment Award'

Sukinda/ Kolkata, Aug 27 (IBNS) Sukinda Chromite Mine of Tata Steel received the prestigious ‘GEM Granites Environment Award’ for the year 2014-15 given by Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI) in a ceremony at New Delhi on August 24.

The award was presented by Minister of State for Mines and Steel, Government of India, Vishnu Deo Sai, in the presence of Union Secretary of Mines, Balvinder Kumar and other dignitaries during FIMI’s 49th Annual General Body Meeting.

Also, a Certificate for an individual who has made significant contribution towards outstanding performance of the mine on Environmental Protection and Sustainable Mining was given to Pankaj Kumar Satija, GM (O), FA & M.

This award was given in recognition of Sukinda Chromite Mine’s significant contribution to environmental protection and sustainable mining operation. Opencast Metalliferous Mines using opencast mechanized mining method are eligible for this GEM Granites Environment Award’award given by the leading miners’ body of the country FIMI.

For its excellent track record in environmental protection and safety measures Sukinda Chromite Mine had earlier received the prestigious 15th Annual Greentech Environment Award-2015 in gold and silver category, National Safety Award under the “Longest Accident Free Period (LAFP) in terms of man shifts worked during three consecutive years ending with the contest year-2012” in March, 2015 by the National Safety Award (Mines) Committee, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India.
