New Delhi: The Ministry of Power on Saturday confirmed the appointment of Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani as the Chief Mentor of a newly constituted Task Force to build the India Energy Stack, The Economic Times reported.

This initiative seeks to establish a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) that will streamline and modernise the power sector’s operations through a unified digital architecture.

The effort is backed under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), with REC Ltd. designated as the Programme Nodal Agency and FSR Global as the Knowledge Partner, an official memo stated.

The India Energy Stack aims to drive digital transformation across generation, transmission, distribution, and consumer-facing services, fostering interoperability and innovation.

"A correction of up to 25% in generation, transmission and distribution costs is the desired outcome of this exercise," an official familiar with the project told ET earlier this month.

Nilekani, who previously led the Aadhaar rollout as Chairperson of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), will help chart the roadmap for the Energy Stack and define the scope for a Utility Intelligence Platform intended to enhance transparency and efficiency.

The Task Force also comprises several prominent experts and senior officials.

These include Dr Ram Sewak Sharma, Chairperson and former CEO of the National Health Authority and ex-TRAI Chairman; Pradeep Kumar Pujari, Vice Chair and Distinguished Fellow at FSR Global and former CERC Chairman; Pramod Verma, Chief Architect of FIDE and former Aadhaar Chief Architect; Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority; Alok Kumar, Director General of AIDA; Jitendra Srivastava, CMD of REC; and SK Soonee, Founder and former CMD of Grid India.

As per the official notification, representatives from key power distribution companies, including CMDs of MSEDCL and GUVNL, will also play a role in steering the initiative.
