Jaitley presents Delhi budget of Rs. 36,776

New Delhi, July 18 (IBNS): Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday presented Delhi's Budget for Rs 36,776 crore in the Parliament, with no new taxes imposed.
"The total Budget Estimate for the Government of NCT of Delhi for the year 2014-15 is Rs. 36766 crore. Rs. 19066 Crore Non-Plan expenditure and Rs. 17700 crore Plan expenditure," Jaitley said in his statement. 
 
Currently, Delhi assembly has been kept under suspended animation and the President Rule is in force.
 
 The government proposed power subsidy of Rs. 260 crore for the domestic consumers to provide relief to the targeted consumers on account of increase in tariff by DERC on Thursday.  The modalities will be worked out by the government of NCT of Delhi.     
 
The Finance Minister proposed a budget of Rs 2,400 crore for education. 
 
He also proposed 20 new schools to be started during the current financial year. A sum of Rs.350 crore will be provided for this purpose, said he.
 
In the health sector, Jaitley proposed to enhance the number of hospitals beds. Two of the largest hospitals, Lok Nayak Hospital and Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, will be transformed into model healthcare centres.
 
He said a new medical college with 100 seats will be started at Rohini and students will be admitted by 2015. One new multi speciality hospital will be set up for South Delhi in the current year.  
 
On safety and security of women, Jaitley proposal to set up women helpline in each police station, increase of women helpline numbers, security audit of paying guest accommodation and girl hostels, deployment of women police personnel in PCR (Police Control Room) vans at vulnerable places and in areas prone to crime against women.
 
"Various initiatives have been taken to expedite investigation of crimes against women. The process for recruitment of 155 women sub-inspectors and 1434 women constables is on and these women police officials expected to join Delhi Police in 2014-15," he said.
 
Jaitley assured that more night centres will be opened in Delhi and four new
sewerage treatment plants will be set up. Community toilets will also be set up in JJ clusters.
