INOX INDIA wins contract to supply equipment to ITER

Mumbai, Aug 6 (IBNS): INOX India ltd, maker of cryogenic liquid storage and transport tanks, has won a contract to supply and install multi-process pipe transfer lines with vacuum jacket, at the world's largest experimental Thermo-nuclear Fusion Reactor (ITER), coming up in Cadarche, France.

INOXCVA, a subsidiary of INOX India Ltd, will execute this order supply of which is scheduled for 2017 and installation in 2019.

It has created a cryoscientific division focusing on specialized assignments such as the one from the ITER project.

“It is a moment of pride for India since this is the first cryogenic contribution by an Indian company to a global project of such scale and size. A major milestone will be reached when we test the real-sized mockup in a dedicated test-facility in IPR. Our company INOXCVA has been pushing the limits in cryogenic technology and we are happy to see it propelling into new frontiers,” said Parag Kulkarni, Director and CEO INOXCVA.

The Cryonegic technology will be extensively used for the ITER project to create and maintain low-temperature conditions near absolute zero for the superconducting magnets, cryo-pumps to create vacuum and some diagnostics systems.

Long and complex Cryogenic transfer lines will be required for transporting the cold power from the source to the superconducting magnets as well as to other systems.

The ITER is an international collaborative project worth 13 billion Euros to be executed over 10 years, being implemented through “in kind” contribution from seven partners, namely,  China, EU, India, Japan, Korea, Russia and USA. 

Upon completion ITER will be the world's largest experimental facility to demonstrate the scientific and technical feasibility of fusion power.

ITER India, which is a part of the Institute for Plasma Research located at Gandhinagar, Gujarat, is the nodal agency responsible for the Indian portion of the project.
