Mumbai, June 27 (IBNS): Infrastructure major, Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) on Monday achieved a breakthrough by day lighting the tunnel on Dwarka-Najafgarh metro corridor.
The 665-meter tunnel is part of the ambitious phase III of Delhi Metro.

The tunnel day-lighting event was witnessed by Mangu Singh (MD), Jitendra Tyagi (DW) and Rajan Kataria (CPM).

The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) was launched at shaft near Sai Baba Temple and emerged out at the shaft near Hanuman Temple of Najafgarh.

The same TBM will once again be deployed at the Human Temple end to dig another tunnel parallel to the tunnel completed today.

This is the third contract for underground metro being executed by HCC since October 2012 under the phase III of Delhi Metro.

HCC has already completed three contracts under phase I and phase II of the Delhi Metro.

The scope of work for Package CC-66, which is underway, includes construction of 224 meter open ramp, 219 meter covered ramp  including a launching shaft, tunnel by EPBM method for 665 meter length, Cut & Cover 198 meter and station box of 288 meter.

The contract also includes construction of one of the biggest underground station namely Najafgarh which is 290 meters long and 30 meters in width.

Arun Karambelkar, President and Whole Time Director, HCC Ltd, said “Overcoming all odds, the HCC project team sustained round-the-clock work to achieve this milestone. HCC has been undertaking challenging assignments in underground metro development and repeat order from DMRC reflects our ability to execute complex projects.”
