EESL signs MoU with Coal India Limited to promote energy efficiency

Kolkata, Feb 17 (IBNS): Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a public sector entity under the administration of Ministry of Power has signed a memorandum of understanding with Coal India Limited (CIL) for implementation of Energy Efficiency projects in CIL and its Subsidiaries.

According to the MoU, which was signed on Feb  8, EESL will carry out energy efficiency projects in all CIL establishments including office buildings and Mines.

Coal India is a holding company with seven wholly owned coal producing subsidiary companies and one mine planning & Consultancy Company.

It encompasses the whole gamut of identification of coal reserves, detailed exploration followed by design and implementation and optimizing operations for coal extraction in its mines. EESL through its programmes is paving the roadmap for making energy efficiency more accessible, affordable and safer for cities and dwellings.

It seeks to unlock energy efficiency market in India, estimated at US$ 12 billion that can potentially result in energy savings of up to 20 per cent of current consumption, by way of innovative business and implementation models. It also acts as the resource centre for capacity building of State DISCOMs, ERCs, SDAs, upcoming ESCOs, financial institutions, etc.
