Budget Expectations
· Healthcare spend: Increase healthcare spend to at least 2.5% of the GDP in the next two years.
· Robust research environment: There is an urgent need to create a robust research environment in India. Encourage drug development in the country through measures like increase in R&D spend and transparent process for conduct of clinical trials with tax friendly measures.
· Increase accessibility: Accessibility needs to be looked at in a holistic manner. Adequate healthcare infrastructure and enabling universal access to healthcare services through increase in penetration of insurance cover is essential. Implementing the promised Universal Health Assurance programme will help to increase access.
· Skill Development: Enhance availability of skilled human resources in the Pharma sector by making special investment provisions to set up more number of educational and training facilities such as the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER).
