London, June 24 (IBNS): Wilting under the setback of Brexit as people voted to leave the EU, British Prime Minister David Cameron, who had campaigned hard urging voters to remain with the union, said he is stepping down in the course of time making way for a new leadership.
He said he will step down by October and will do everything needed for Britain to succeed. He said the will of the people who chose to vote for Leave must be respected.

will make a statement soon, the financial markets across the world nosedived as the results reflected a 51.8 percent votes in favour of Leave and 48.2 percent to Remain in a referendum that is now famously called Brexit.

He said he believed that Britain was stronger and safer within EU but people chose to vote for Brexit.

He said though there is no precise time table now, but the country will need a new prime minister and leadership and he will step down by October.

He said he will continue for next three months.

He  said he loved this country, and was honoured to serve it.  He will do what he can to “steady the ship”.

He said a new prime minister should be in place by the start of the Conservative conference.

Despite a close battle, Britain has voted to leave the European Union in a historic referendum on Thursday as results were declared on Friday, thus severing a tie of decades and dealing a blow to the European unity.

The "Leave" or "Remain" campaign, which is also now termed as Brexit or British Exit from the EU, gained momentum as the world watched what the Britons decided since it will impact the global economy in a big way.

The former London Mayor Boris Johnson, who is seen as Cameron’s possible successor as party leader, had led the Leave campaign, along with several serving Cabinet members.
