Bajaj Auto defies the dip! Company bets big on CNG motorcycles despite slumping sales — is a game-changer coming?
Mumbai/IBNS: Despite a decline in the sales of Bajaj Freedom 125, Bajaj Auto Ltd. is not planning to "pull the plug" on its CNG motorcycles, the company said at a press conference reported by Business Today.
Bajaj Freedom 125, which is the only gas-run two-wheeler in the country, has reported a decline of 65% year-on-year earning to 3,874 units in October.
"I don't think we are pulling the plug on that (Freedom 125). Some of these new innovative disruptions take time to land... We are very much going to stay the course on it," Dinesh Thapar, chief financial officer of Bajaj Auto, said as quoted by the report.
Besides remaining firm on continuing with Bajaj Freedom 125, the company is trying to make electric motorcycles.
"There is work underway on the electrification of the Pulsar and the Boxer," said Thapar.
"We have re-homologated the entire traction motor range with LRE. There is work underway on de-risking ourselves from rare earths entirely and looking at motors that are rare-earth-free," he added.
Bajaj Auto has already surpassed TVS Motor as the top-selling electric scooters in the country.
