KLA Corporation has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu to invest $400 million (approximately ₹3,600 crore) in setting up a state-of-the-art R&D and Innovation Campus in Chennai.

Announcing the development on X, Tamil Nadu Industries Minister T. R. B. Rajaa described the move as the “next massive win” for the state’s industrial ambitions.

“We said we have much more in store in semiconductors — and here we are!” he wrote, adding that KLA, one of the global leaders in semiconductor manufacturing design and R&D, has partnered with Guidance Tamil Nadu to establish its global R&D and Innovation Campus in Chennai.

According to the minister, the planned 12-acre campus is expected to generate up to 4,000 high-skilled jobs. It is envisioned as KLA’s global R&D and innovation hub, with a potential built-up capacity of up to 1.5 million square feet over time.

The facility will support advanced research in high-performance computing, process control engineering software, and AI-driven semiconductor innovation. It is also set to become KLA’s largest integrated R&D presence outside its global headquarters.

Rajaa said the investment underscores investor confidence in Tamil Nadu’s governance stability, policy clarity, and deep engineering talent pool. Under the leadership of Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, he added, the state is building a long-term semiconductor ecosystem anchored in talent, research, and advanced engineering.
