World must unite to fight terrorism: Narendra Modi at United Nations General Assembly

"It is India who has played a pioneering role in the UN peacekeeping efforts. We warn the world about the menace of terrorism as it is a global crisis not a problem of any particular country," said Modi adding that: "India has given Buddha not Yudh to the world."

"We have raised strong voice against terrorism since we believe that it is one of the major threats to humanity. It is important for the world to come together to fight terrorism," Modi urged the global leaders from the platform of UNGA.

He said the world is changing.

"Modern technology, economic activities, everything is changing. We must go for multilateralism and UN must give new directions," he said.

Speaking about the much-hailed address by Hindu monk Swami Vivekananda in Chicago in 1893, Modi said: "Swami Vivekananda had spoken about harmony and peace and not dissension in Chicago. Now we also give the same message of harmony and peace."

Modi also used the platform to share with the world the different public welfare programmes his government has undertaken.

"We are making attempts to make India single use plastic-free. Our government has also taken up efforts to make India TB free by 2025," said he.

The Indian PM said his government's inspiration is "Sabka Saath, Sab ka Vikas, Sab ka Viswas meaning "With everyone, for everyone's progress and for earning everyone's trust."

"Our government's mission is to attempt for public welfare. We aim for inclusive dvelopment," said he.

Modi said that he wants the developmental model of India to be inspirational for other countries who are struggling with their problems.

Modi addressed the UNGA for the second time on Friday. His first address was in 2014 after he assumed the Prime Miniter's Office for the first time.
