Women's reservation bill: Congress offers unconditional support to Modi, says Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, July 16 (IBNS): Urging the Prime Minister to rise above politics, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday said his party is lending an unconditional support to Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government over the long-pending women's reservation bill in the Lok Sabha.

Rahul tweeted to say, "Our PM says he’s a crusader for women’s empowerment? Time for him to rise above party politics, walk-his-talk & have the Women’s Reservation Bill passed by Parliament. The Congress offers him its unconditional support. Attached is my letter to the PM."

The monsoon session of the Parliament will be held between July 18 and Aug 10.

In 2017, then Congress president Sonia Gandhi had urged the PM to take an advantage of the BJP's majority in the Lok Sabha and pass the bill.

In a letter, she had said: "The Congress party has always and will continue to support this legislation which will be a significant step forward in the empowerment of women, " she wrote.

"I am writing to request you to take advantage of your majority in the Lok Sabha to now get the Women’s Reservation Bill passed in the Lower House as well.

The bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha in 2010 under the rule of the Congress-led UPA.
