Will Biplab Kumar Deb be the next Tripura CM?

Agartala, Mar 3 (IBNS): With BJP registering a thumping victory in Left bastion Tripura uninstalling the communists after 25 years, the next big question is who in BJP will be taking oath as the next Chief Minister of the state to replace Left Front's Manik Sarkar whose fort came crashing down.

Biplab Kumar Deb, state BJP president, has emerged as the frontrunner, according to media reports.

Manik Sarkar and his Left ruled the state for 25 years and its strong presence was blown to dust amid strong BJP winds with the party winning 43 seats in the state. The Left were moved down to 16 seats.

Meanwhile,  welcoming BJP's landmark victory in Tripura, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the win in the state will be remembered as an 'epoch-making one'.

He said by bringing BJP to power the people of Tripura have performed an 'extraordinary' act.

He promised to develop Tripura under the new rule.

Now, the question has emerged who will become the next Chief Minister of the state.

While several names are emerging,  Biplab Kumar Deb, Tripura BJP President, is being seen by many as the strongest contender for the post.

Biplab has already told media that he is ready to take up big responsibilities.

He was quoted as saying by NDTV: "I am ready to take the responsibility. I will not run away from taking any responsibility."

The party, however, has not announced its final decision so far.

A former gym instructor, Biplab was born in  Akraban, Udaipur in Gomoti District of Tripura.

He was directed to take charge of the party leadership in Tripura in 2016.

A youngest chief of the BJP in any state, Biplab was a volunteer with the RSS earlier.

Sunil Deodhar, the BJP's Tripura in-charge, congratulated Biplab immediately after the victory on social media.

The name of  Rampada Jamatia has also emerged in the Tripura political circle as one perfectly fitted for the top job.

He is the current Vice President of the party in Tripura.

In case BJP goes with a tribal face for the CM then he might emerge as one top contender for the post.

Away from them,  Dr Atul Debbarma, a well-known doctor, could be another name emerging as a favourite to be the next CM of Tripura. He is another Tribal face on whom BJP could bank upon but his ailing health with a massive cardiac arrest last year could act as a deterrent.
