'Will accept an auto rickshaw but not reward': Driver who rushed wounded Saif Ali Khan to hospital

Mumbai/IBNS: Autorickshaw driver Bhajan Singh Rana is highly praised for rushing Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan, who was stabbed by a Bangladeshi intruder at his house, to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital at a critical juncture.

Recently, Saif, who has been discharged from the hospital, met Rana and thanked him for helping out in trying times.

But Rana is not open to accepting any cash reward if offered to him. Rather, he won't mind accepting if an auto rickshaw is gifted.

On being asked whether he would accept an auto rickshaw, Rana said, "I'm not asking for it. But if they wish to give it to me, I will accept."

"Neither I have claimed that I should be rewarded for what I did nor I am greedy for it," he added.

However, he remained tightlipped on the amount he received from Saif, who thanked Rana and offered financial support.

Speaking to Instant Bollywood, Rana revealed that he met Saif as well as his mother, veteran actress Sharmila Tagore.

"Saif Ali Khan thanked me. I touched the feet of his mother. Everyone praised me for my action," said Rana.

Saif, a Bollywood A-lister, was stabbed multiple times after he tried to protect his son Jeh from the attacker.

He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital by his son from his previous marriage, Ibrahim Ali Khan, in an auto-rickshaw as no car was available at that point of time.

The actor, who survived multiple stabs, received a wound close to the spinal cord. Doctors had to remove the knife which was 2.5 inches deep into the wound.

The attack on the house of a top level celebrity has left the Mumbai Police red faced.

Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde said the accused won't be spared.

"It is our responsibility to keep Maharashtra safe. As per the decision taken by CM, action is being taken. We will take strict action against illegal Bangladeshis," Shinde said as quoted by News 18.

More than 30 teams were mobilised to track down and apprehend the attacker.

Saif's wife, Bollywood superstar Kareena Kapoor Khan, who was present during the attack, recorded her statement with the Mumbai Police.

She recounted the horrifying incident, stating, "The attacker was aggressive. I saw him stab Saif repeatedly. Our priority was to get Saif to the hospital."

She added that the intruder fled without stealing any valuables.

Kareena revealed that after ensuring her husband was hospitalised, she sought refuge at her sister Karisma Kapoor's home, feeling "terrified" after the ordeal.
