'Where were you?': Heated exchange between Prashant Kishor and lathicharged BPSC aspirants
Patna/IBNS: A confrontation unfolded on Sunday night in Patna between political strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor and student protesters, who accused him of being absent during police action against Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) aspirants.
The tensions arose after police employed water cannons and baton charges to disperse the protesters, who were rallying against alleged irregularities in the 70th BPSC preliminary examination.
While Kishor had previously expressed support for the students’ demands, his absence during the police crackdown drew sharp criticism.
At Patna's Gardanibagh, protesters called for Kishor to leave the site, chanting slogans like "Prashant Kishor, go back."
The situation escalated into a heated exchange when Kishor retorted, “You take blankets from us and then show us attitude.”
This remark further enraged the protesters, who questioned his whereabouts during the lathi-charge.
Protests that began on December 13—the day of the BPSC exam—have since gained momentum, with thousands gathering at Gandhi Maidan on Sunday.
The aspirants demanded a re-examination and sought an audience with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
The agitation has garnered support from political leaders, educationists, and activists alike.
Following his removal from the protest site, Kishor addressed a press conference on Monday to clarify his stance.
Denying the allegations, Kishor provided a detailed account of his actions, emphasising his commitment to the students’ cause.
He explained that he had advised the protesters to disperse before the lathi-charge, which occurred 45 minutes after his departure.
Kishor strongly condemned the police action and announced plans to file an FIR against Patna Police, take legal action, and approach the Human Rights Commission.
He assured protesters of his continued support, stating he would join their agitation if no resolution emerged from a delegation meeting scheduled with authorities.
Responding to criticism from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, who accused him of abandoning the students, Kishor dismissed the claims, asserting that all his actions were taken in the best interests of the movement.
