Kolkata/IBNS: Two persons were killed when some locals opened fire and hurled crude bombs on a group of people who were protesting against the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in Murshidabad district of West Bengal on Wednesday, media reports said.

The incident happened near Sahebnagar market in the Jalangi police station area of Murshidabad.

Three others, who have sustained bullet injuries, were admitted to a hospital.

The deceased have been identified as 55-year old Anarul Biswas and Salauddin Sheikh (17).

While Biswas had died on the spot, Sheikh succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

The protest against CAA was a part of an all India bandh which was called by the Bahujan Kranti Morcha (BKM) on Wednesday.

The protestors alleged that the attackers belong to the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). However, the TMC rejected such claims.
