West Bengal: Train runs over three gangmen near Kharagpur

Kolkata/IBNS: Three gangmen were run over by a speeding express train while working on the tracks between Duan and Balichak railway stations under the Kharagpur (kGP) division in Debra area in West Bengal's West Medinipur district on Saturday morning, a spokesperson of the South-Eastern Railway said.

According to reports, four gangmen were engaged in regular railway-track maintenance at the area when they were hit by Howrah-Secunderabad Falaknuma Covid Special (02703) express at around 10 am.

Three gangmen, who have been identified as Bapi Nayek, Manik Mondal and Nripen Pal, were killed on the spot while another railtrack maintenance staff, Kisan Besra, was seriously injured in the accident and he has been admitted to a railway hospital in Kharagpur in a critical condition.

Following the incident, senior railway officials visited the scene.

A railway spokesperson said that an inquiry has been initiated into the matter.
