West Bengal to reopen schools, colleges, universities on Feb 3
Kolkata/IBNS: Schools for classes eighth to 12th standard, colleges and universities will reopen with the decline in COVID-19 cases in West Bengal on Feb 3, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Monday amid sporadic protests against the closure of educational institutions.
Students of classes 5 to 7 will be able to attend "Parae Shikhalaya" or "Schools at your doorstep" for the time being, Banerjee said in her press briefing.
"With the reopening of schools on Feb 3, teachers will get time for preparation to worship Maa Saraswati on Feb 5," she said.
Taking credit for the government's decision, Students' Federation of India (SFI) national leader Dipsita Dhar wrote on Facebook, "It is the victory of SFI's movement. Schools, colleges are opening from 3rd February."
Besides this, Banerjee said night curfews will begin from 11 pm instead of 10 pm and continue till 5 am from Feb 1.
The workforce in offices, occupancy in cinema halls, stadiums, restaurants has been increased to 75 percent.
200 people will be allowed to gather in any rallies or meetings.
The Kolkata-London, Kolkata-Mumbai and Kolkata-Delhi flights have been allowed to operate regularly though Banerjee said the Kolkata-Bengaluru flights will have to wait for the relaxations.
All passengers from London will have to mandatorily undergo RTPCR test, the Chief Minister said.
On Sunday, West Bengal reported 3,427 COVID-19 cases while the toll went up by 33.
