West Bengal to go to Lok Sabha Elections in seven phases

Kolkata, Mar 10 (UNI): The Election Commission of India (ECI) today announced a seven phase poll schedule for the Lok Sabha elections, 2019.


West Bengal will vote for the LokSabha Elections, 2019 in seven phases.

 

Two Parliament seats will go to polls on April 11 in the first phase, three seats on April 18, five seats on April 23, eight seats on April 29, seven seats on May 6, eight seats on May 12, and nine seats on May 19.

Two constituencies — Coochbehar and Alipurduars — will go to polls in phase 1 on April 11.

Three constituencies — Jalpaigudi, Darjeeling and Raigunge — will go to polls in phase 2 on April 18.

Electorates of five constituencies — Balurghat, Malda Uttar, Malda Dakshin, Jangipur and Murshidabad — will cast their votes in phase 3 on April 23.

Eight constituencies — Behrampore, Krishnanagar, Bolpur, Birbhum, Ranaghat, Burwan Durgapur, Burdwan Purba and Asansol — will go to polls in phase 4 on April 29.

Seven Constituencies —Bongaon, Barackpur Howrah, Uluberia, Hoogly, Srirampore, and Arambag — will go to polls in phase 5 on May 6.

Eight constituencies — Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Purulia, Bakura, Jhargram, Medinipur and Bishnupur – will go to polls in phase 6 on May 12.

Nine constituencies — Dumdum, Barasat, Basirhat, Joynagar, Mathurapur, Diamond Harbour, Jadavpur, Kol Dakshin and Kol Uttar — will go to polls in phase 7 on May 19.

Counting of votes will be held on May 23.

The Model Code of Conduct has come into effect from today, Election Commission said.

The EC has said the EVMs with VVPATs will be used across all booths in the Lok Sabha elections.
