West Bengal: Suspected terrorist with JMB links held in Burdwan

Kolkata, Jul 5 (IBNS): Acting on a tip off, police on Monday late evening booked one suspected terrorist linked to Jamaat Ul Mujahideen Bangladesh from a passenger train at Burdwan railway station in West Bengal, officials said.
According to reports, the middle-aged man boarded a Rampurhat bound train from Howrah railway station and came under police scanner. When the train reached Burdwan station, he was detained.

"The man, who claimed that he is a resident of Labhpur in Birbhum district, boarded 53047-Howrah to Rampurhat Viswabharati Fast Passenger from Howrah staion. We had specific intelligence inputs about him. He was under continuous police surveillance from Howrah to Burdwan station. When the train reached Burdwan station, we detained him," one senior official of Burdwan district police told IBNS.

"He is being interrogated now. Few sharp weapons have been seized from his possession. He claimed that he bought those from Esplanade for his personal job. We are suspecting that the man might have strong links with Bangladeshi terror group- Jamaat Ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). We have informed the National Investigation Agency as well," the officer further said.

Earlier in 2014, a JMB module was busted in Burdwan district, following a blast at Khagragarh area.

Bangladesh witnessed an unprecedented terror attack last week where allegedly a group of  terrorists took foreigners as hostages in an upscale Dhaka cafe and killed them brutally.

Amid speculations of Islamic State involvement, Bangladesh said the terrorists were home grown with Jamaat connection.
