He was suffering from a lung infection and had been undergoing treatments since July last year.

Informing about the same, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a tweet said she is "deeply pained" by Pande's demise.

"Our senior colleague, party leader and Cabinet Minister Sadhan Pande has passed away today morning at Mumbai. Had a wonderful relation for long. Deeply pained at this loss. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, followers," Banerjee tweeted.

The TMC heavyweight retained his Maniktala seat for the third consecutive term in the 2021 assembly polls and was sworn as the state consumer affairs minister.
