Kolkata/Asansol, Apr 12 (IBNS): Hundreds of hawkers clashed with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Tuesday at Asansol railway station in West Bengal's Burdwan district, reports said.

According to reports, when a large number of train-hawkers were staging demonstration over several issues at the station area in the noon, the RPF dispersed them from the area.

After few minutes, those hawkers, allegedly carrying Trinamool Congress's flags, returned to the spot again and had started stone pelting, aiming at the RPF personnel. They also ransacked RPF office, ticket booking counters and a portion of Asansol station's platform number 7.

A heavy police force were deployed to the spot and policemen restored to lathicharge to bring the situation under control.

Few policemen, protesters and train-passegers were injured in the clash. Police have detained few demonstrating hawkers from the spot.

However, till the last update came in, the situation is completely under control now.
